 Matkot is a popular paddle ball game in Israel similar to beach tennis, often referred to as the country's national sport.

Matkot is a non-competitive beach game in which two or more players hit a small ball back and forth using Racquets.

The Racquets are traditionally made of wood, although sometimes the handles are reinforced with a plastic covering. The head of a racquet may vary somewhat in size and shape. The heads are circular/oval and about 29 centimetres (12 in) in diameter. The racquet handles are short, some are longer by an inch for more leverage, and with very little trunk between the handle and the racquet head. The standard ball used is the same ball as is used in squash. However, novice and intermediate players sometimes use a ball that is similar in size to a squash ball, but lighter and/or bouncier. or a blue dot ball, (biginers) The game has developed a moderate level of popularity outside of Israel as a participatory sport, particularly where there is either a strong beach culture

Features and Classification

Like tennis balls, squash balls are made with 2 durable rubber halves sealed together. Over time, the compressed air inside escapes and the balls lose pressure.

Ongoing impact causes the temperature of the ball to rise, increasing the pressure of the air inside, and therefore increasing bounce. This means that the longer a ball is in play, the livelier its bounce.

Squash balls are into divided into 4 standard types by playing level. It is important to choose the squash ball that matches your skills.

• Yellow dot balls are for very experienced players and have a dull bounce

• White dot balls are for advanced players and have a light bounce

• Red dot balls are for intermediate and recreational players and have a responsive bounce

• Blue dot balls are for beginners and juniors.

    Playing Level

Beginners / Juniors

• Start with a high or medium bounce ball, and gradually switch to low bounce balls as you improve.

• You want a ball that is lively enough for you to maintain a rally and build skill

• Intermediate / Experienced

• Yellow dot balls of a trusted brand for durability and reliable performance

• Do not use generic balls if you are trying to refine your skills

When To Replace Balls

Over time, balls tend to become spongy and unresponsive. Good, predictable bounce is necessary to prevent frustration,

so balls should be replaced on a regular basis. Approximately every 2-3 months for regular players.
